Another week

Is it really Sunday again? Is there any reason to write when there is nothing exciting going on?
I haven't been able to go to more than Sacrament meeting the past two Sundays due to cranky baby and nap conflict. That's what I'm trying to figure out right now, what to do about that. Can't wait to add another to the chaos.
Yesterday two really good friends hosted a baby shower for me. We have some amazing friends and ward members. We are so blessed. I can't believe how much love and support was showered upon our family.
There was homemade vanilla ice cream with every topping I could want. Gorgeous flowers. A cake made out of diapers - and a wreath too! A clothesline of baby clothes. And fun games - what a wonderful and perfect evening spent with friends.

I have two doctor appointments this week. One tomorrow for a last ultrasound and a regular appointment on Tuesday, or Wednesday...I don't really know, I need to call on that. The appointment card says it's on Wednesday the 28th - and if you check your calendar, that doesn't make any sense. Not that you need to know all that.
I wonder if this baby will have as much hair as his brother. I had to cut Kaleb's hair again this morning. His hair grows so fast, he starts looking like Herman's Hermits if I let it go more than 3 weeks. It's a good thing Kaleb doesn't care, and it doesn't matter right now if it's a perfectly straight haircut.
So far everything is going well. Not too many complaints, besides the usual. Life is good.

I really have nothing to say. It's hot and I am exhausted, so we don't go anywhere. Besides the fact that Jake has the car all day. If he didn't, Kaleb and I would be at the local pool a lot. It's only about 2 miles away, but, even that, in the heat, and uphill is too much. We went to the pool yesterday (it's only $2, kids free, now that's a good summer deal!) I just wanted to float around in there all day rather than have to get out and feel the effects of gravity and the sun.
I'll just post my favorite pictures of the week and call it good. Wow - I think this really is the shortest post I've ever posted.

This baby is growing as he should be, and all is going well. I have one more ultrasound next week to check up on the little guy. It's hard to believe how fast the time has flown.

Nowhere to go but straight out from here on out.

Hmm - Kaleb squints like his mom when he smiles, thus, his eyes are shut in more than half his pictures. He is so close to just getting up and walking. He stands more frequently and regularly. He still has to pull himself up on something first before letting go, but, his balance has greatly improved. I think he's getting some of his top teeth in. He is growing so fast!

...why I love being Kaleb's mom.
He is so full of life, and is usually such a happy-go-lucky kid. He keeps me laughing practically all day with the crazy things he does. Especially with the little things that make him laugh like it's the funniest thing he's ever discovered...i.e. taking all the magnetic letters off the fridge and throwing them on the floor, putting toys in his dump truck and dumping them out onto himself. He has quite the amusing conversations with his stuffed cow (Phil) and duck (Howard) because he with be holding one of them and laughing like they were at a comedy show. So much more gets this kid laughing. I am grateful he is a happy kid.
Have you ever tried to not laugh when a kid is full out gut laughing? It's especially funny when you can't figure out what they are laughing at anyway.
This is one such example. Kaleb loves bath time and finds great joy in splashing as much of the water on the floor as possible. This isn't a good video of Kaleb, it's not meant to be, what's great, is listening to him laugh. I believe he was finding humor in his toys bobbing up and down. He just generally thinks the bath is a funny place though, so you never know.
I came in with the camera after he had been full out laughing for at least 5 minutes or more, this is what I caught at the end...



Kaleb had his 12 month check-up last Friday. Poor guy had to get 4 shots. I opted out of a fifth one because I decided it wasn't necessary to torment Kaleb anymore all for a chickenpox vaccine (besides other reasons). Kaleb is doing so well and is right dead average for his age in everything. He is 21 LB and 29 1/4 inches tall.
Our only problem is getting him to drink milk. The weird kid doesn't like milk, whether it be in a sippy cup, glass, or bottle. The doctor has told me on two different visits that we need to get him to drink milk, he needs more calcium. What is one to do? You can't force a 1 year old to drink, or eat something they don't want to (trust me, I've tried). In the meantime we'll try a few other tactics, although he'll only occasionally eat yogurt. Tried calcium fortified OJ even, he thought it was okay, but even then he would only take a few swallows before begging for water. Kaleb loves water as I have mentioned - whether it be water he's sitting and playing in, or being able to drink it. Water is his preferred choice of beverage and he can drink a lot in one sitting.
A huge congrats to Jake's sister Hailey and hubby Cameron - they welcomed their baby boy into this world last Thursday. A good sized kid weighing in at 9 lbs 8 oz. and 20 inches long. I realized Kaleb was almost just as long - but only 7 lbs 11 oz - ha ha ha.

He is so cute and amazingly adorable in his pictures which I'm sure hardly do him justice. I can't wait to meet the little guy. I can't wait for his cousin to get here either :-) I hope we can always live close enough to get the kids together often.

One Day at a Time

I realize all my posts are about Kaleb. When he's the most exciting thing around here, why would you want to hear about boring ol' us? Jake is still at the same job, and still enjoys it (most days). I still go in for 2 hours at night to be a receptionist. I'm planning on being done with that by the end of this month. I figure with two boys, I will have plenty to keep me busy at home. I'm sure getting out of the house for a few hours when Jake gets home will be needed even more, if I don't have to drive to work it will mean I will have time to get out and do what I want to. A huge plus is that we can have family dinner together (rather than me and Jake at 8-9:00 at night).
Told you we were boring.
Without further ado - Kaleb...
He is standing up more on his own every day. He still has to pull himself up on something and then he'll occasionally let go. Jake said he tried to take a step and fell over. No need to rush little buddy, I don't have energy to chase you more than I already have to.
It amazes me what kids can quickly figure out. Kaleb was crawling through the aisle at church. I didn't see a reason to chase him, he was being quiet and I assumed he would stop and turn around when he got to the stairs leading up to the stand. He has never been around stairs and thus has never had the opportunity to experience, and practice on them. He got to the stairs, looked at them for a moment, then proceeded right on up with out a moments hesitation. By the time I got up there to grab him he was halfway through the seats at the very back. He's quicker than I thought!
We didn't have any big plans for the 4th of July. I must say, I miss Wyoming and fireworks, now that is a way to celebrate.
We both had work off on Friday and spent the day organizing our house (although it already needs it again). I ran some errands in the morning - getting stuff for the new baby. Later I had to get me and Kaleb out of the house so we went to a local park with our grill and some hot dogs.

On Saturday (the 4th) we didn't do much either. We were invited by some friends to their house for a BBQ and to watch the local fireworks. We got through eating some food before Kaleb decided he couldn't handle anything anymore. We missed the fireworks since we couldn't see them from our place. Jake decided we should watch Star Wars #6 since there are fireworks at the end - ha ha ha - not so sure that counted, but, I guess I still got to see fireworks (in a manner of speaking).

Here's a random picture from earlier in the week. Kaleb loves apple cores and will sit for a good half hour or more just chewing, munching, and generally making a big slobbery, sticky mess. It seems less messy to let him enjoy this treat outside. Then he gets his apple core with dirt and grass too - yum!
