Life is like a bowl of jelly beans

Is Sunday really over already? I thought the weekend had just started!? I guess I'll post pictures and perhaps a video or two from the past few weeks.
We are pretty much all settled into our new apartment. There is that one room that still has clutter and boxes but it's the craft/office room so it's a whenever we get to it, we'll get to it.
We both went in for eye exams since we haven't done that in more than several years. I decided to go back to contacts and this is Jake looking serious as he models his new look.

We still haven't had the official ultrasound...still waiting for an approval/authorization form to show up in the mailbox from my Dr. before I can call and make an appointment. Don't you love and hate insurance?
We are loving our ward so far. It has quite a few 'nearly deads' and not so much in the younger age category, but, not too bad. Everyone seems to be really friendly. We had a meeting with our bishop a week ago. It was a very quite meeting, we had no questions for him, he had no questions for us. He did ask us what our ideal calling would be...really? You mean we get to choose? Is this one of those trick questions, like when you fill out your form to go on a mission and it asks if you speak any foreign languages, yes French..and it sends you to Taiwan or somewhere completely opposite? So, of course we had to be the good kids and say, "Anywhere you and the Lord needs us". We're still waiting.
Enough about boring old us...I'm sure all you want to read about and see pictures of is Kaleb.
Without further ado.
What I've realized about having a mobile baby is...
I need to get my vacuum fixed ASAP. Our vacuum broke on our day of cleaning in our last apartment, of course, it was a few days after the warranty expired (typical). I've ordered the parts to fix it, and I want them to arrive. You must vacuum every day with a mobile child. Last week I found a staple or something lovely and metal and poky, in his diaper...hmmm, that one must have felt good going down.
Kaleb used to just stay in the room where you put him down to play. I gave him his bucket of toys and jumped in the shower this morning. Not too much later, this head pops around the shower curtain. So much for my privacy. I suddenly hear this banging. I quickly finish up to go investigate. There is Kaleb sitting by the front door knocking his head against it, crying "Ma, Ma" I asked him if he wanted to go outside and he got that excited whole body wiggle.
Another thing. I was trying to cook dinner last night and Kaleb kept coming in to sit on my feet, which isn't so good when you are working at a hot stove. I kept trying to put him back out in the living room to play, in he would come. Time to get a few gates set up real soon.
And lastly...for the past few weeks this was what would greet us whenever Kaleb was put in his crib...
I had to have Jake put the crib mattress on the lowest setting and take off the bumper pads so Kaleb wouldn't launch himself out. He is pulling himself up on everything now, nothing is safe anymore!
We have decided his first syllable that he uses on a regular bases and seems to have meaning for him is "ma" That is what he cries when he wants anything...sniff...I am rather proud. Although he does like "da-da" quite a bit also.
Last week as I pulled a shirt over his head I exclaimed "pop" Kaleb just started laughing like it was the funniest thing he had ever heard and then proceeded to babble "pop" the rest of the day. I pulled out the camera to catch his first word. Of course, he was more interested in the camera instead of performing how I wanted him to. Sigh...here are a few attempts though.

Kaleb is very much into spitting. He just sits all day happily blowing 'raspberries' and generally soaking anyone and everything within his vicinity. How does this kid have that much saliva in there? After trying effortlessly yesterday at church to not (1) crawl under the benches and (2) stop spitting - I can't hold a blanket over his face the whole time. I finally turned to those around us and apologized and asked if they wanted me to bring them an umbrella and rain coat...kids will be kids.

And just a few last favorite shots of Kaleb from our day out on Saturday, enjoying the warm California sunshine. I have come to the conclusion that if he slept really well, at night and for naps, then he would be a perfect baby, and that just isn't possible. I guess I'll take him for what he is.

Only for daddy...

or bread, or something he really wants. I captured this video last night while Kristen was at work. It is the first time he has really crawled. Up til now he was acted more like a worm.

In this first one Kaleb will go over any obstacle, or drag it with him to get what he wants.

Here is one with a clear path to my phone that he loves.

So far it is only for an item he really wants. I hope he waits long enough before he realizes that this is a way for him to get around. I need to do some securing of the apartment first. But it's really cool to watch him develop and grow.

There's the "usual" way...

And then there is Kaleb's way. I have been meaning to post this video for a few weeks now and never got around to it. Since Kaleb is taking an extra good nap today I figured I might as well - it's that or unpack and organize. Kaleb still hasn't quite figured out the crawling business. He manages to get around just fine though. This is his version of crawling. He gets up on toes and finger tips or does what I refer to as his worm crawl...kind of a belly flop. This isn't the best video but I thing it represents Kaleb's unique way of getting around. He has to want something pretty bad to actually go through the effort though. He has pulled himself up to a standing position a few times, and once even stood for about a second without anything, so, this may be all we'll get. We'll see though. Occasionally he'll get a few crawls in but then seems to quickly flop on his stomach with an audible sigh, seeming to say, "it's just too much work". I personally think crawling on toes and fingertips would be a lot harder, but, to each his own. I'll try to get a better video of it, in the meantime, enjoy the worm crawl...
