One of the reasons I love winter: oranges.
Oranges, if good and juicy, is one of my favorite fruits. I count down to December because I can finally buy oranges in the store and they will be delicious, about 90% of the time...unfortunately you always get your bitter ones.
My favorite orange memory takes me back to Southern CA. We were visiting our 'aunts'. They are really mom's cousins but more like aunts. They have a small orchard in the back.We gathered armfuls of avocados, various varieties of oranges and other fruit. We sat on a stone wall in the CA sunshine and peeled a few oranges. Those were some of the tastiest, and juiciest oranges. Best part: they were warm from hanging in the sun. I still vividly recall us sitting there laughing about something as juice dripped from our chins and off our elbows. Kaleb sat nearby in their motorhome gravel driveway throwing the gravel. It was one of those perfect days.
This next picture doesn't have a thing to do with something as healthy as oranges. But it still fits as delicious.
Vegetarians, consider this your warning: stop reading this now. We are going to talk about meat because, let's face it, no one really goes to Big Jud's for the grilled cheese, a garden or a turkey burger. Okay, Kaleb goes for the mini corndogs. Most people, they go for the burgers.
Big Jud's will serve you a 6 LB (after cooking) hamburger. We opted for the less disgusting option and ordered a 1 LB meal to share.
Between just the two of us we got through the burger but no way were we finishing all the french fries. The fries are hand-cut and they must bring out at least 6-8 potatoes worth. Just a little too much food. We probably would have finished the fries with the kids help but the boys are picky and don't like hand-cut ones so it was all up to us, and we failed. We also each got a large waffle cone packed with our choice of ice cream. Our stomachs were overtaxed but extremely happy. This is probably the best burger joint in town, although way on the outskirts in the middle of no-where.
